AWARD CRITERIA
- Nominees must be members of both ABCT and the ASDD SIG prior to application. Joining the ASDD SIG is easy and free – please visit https://my.cheddarup.com/c/asdd-sig
- Across all awards, preference will be given to those whose research and/or clinical work focuses on CBT and/or behavior therapy applications in the ASDD population.
Best Student Clinician-Researcher Award
Must be matriculated Master’s- or doctoral-level students. Selection will be made based on the current and future impact of the applicant’s clinical and research work in the field of ASDD. Please include a CV and a personal statement about your current and future clinical and research work (<400 words). You may nominate yourself or a colleague.
These submissions will be evaluated based on several domains, including but not limited to those listed below. Please note that you do not need to score high in all domains to be a successful applicant.
- Domains for personal statement scoring: CBT/Behavioral Orientation; Current Impact of the Field of Autism Developmental Disabilities; Future Impact on the Field of Autism and Developmental Disabilities; Writing Quality
- Domains for CV scoring: Research productivity; Research Quality/Impact; Clinical Expertise; Commitment to Community; Service to the Field; Health Equity/Commitment to Historically Marginalized Populations
Mid Career Award (Open to clinicians, professors, and researchers)
Individuals who received doctoral degrees more than 10 but less than 20 years ago can apply. Selection criteria will include noteworthy contributions to science and/or practice relevant to ASDD and potential for future impact. Please include a CV and a personal statement about your current and future clinical, advocacy/community outreach, academia, and/or research work (<400 words). You may nominate yourself or a colleague.
*Please note that Mid-career awards (offered every even year) rotates with the Early Career Awards (offered every odd year), and therefore, the Early Career Award will not be offered this year.
These submissions will be evaluated based on several domains, including but not limited to those listed below. You do not need to score high in all domains to be a successful applicant. We encourage a range of early career professionals to apply, based on contributions to clinical work, advocacy/community outreach, teaching/mentorship, and/or research.

Outstanding Mentor Award
The Outstanding Mentor award seeks to acknowledge and appreciate individuals who have had a significant impact on mentees’ careers, professional development, and personal growth. To nominate someone for the Outstanding Mentor award, please write a brief statement (200-400 words) about how you have benefited from their mentorship and why your mentor is deserving of this award. Mentors must be an ASDD SIG member.
Travel Award
We are excited to offer a travel award in the form of $400 for four trainees (student, postbac, or postdoc) presenting their research at ABCT. Two awards are specifically designated for autistic attendees. To apply, please submit 1) proof of acceptance to present at ABCT, 2) brief reasoning for funding (250 words or less statement on why you should receive funding, including type of work you will be presenting), and 3) brief list and description of budget needs, including travel distance, costs for travel, accommodations, registration, etc. Please clearly state if you have received or may receive any other travel funding, including the amount. In the event of an overabundance of strong applications, preference will be given to those traveling internationally, over 500+ miles, and those not receiving other travel funding. Please designate whether you are applying for the “Travel Award” or “Travel Award as Autistic Attendee” in your application.
